Description: | Allows a character to produce scrolls. |
Creating a healthy supply of scrolls is an important part of being considered a well-stocked adventuring group.
Description
Scrolls are slightly more inconvenient to use than potions, but massively more convenient to store. As a result, scrolls are generally used by experienced adventuring groups for most of their consumable needs.
The most popular scrolls are always the kind that can be cast during periods of rest, like those with long durations and healing magic. This gives you the time to pull it out of storage and read off the incantation with your hands free. Spells best used in the middle of combat still get put on scrolls, but those scrolls are generally kept on hand in a convenient location a bit like potions.
Effect
This skill allows a character to create scrolls using production points and the preproduction system. These can be picked up at check-in.
A scroll that is made with a level 4 or 5 spell requires ritual ink and a ritual quill in addition to the required production points to produce. A dose of ritual ink is consumed upon making the scroll.

Making Scrolls
Scrolls are spells partially prepared in advance that must be read aloud by someone who has the Read Magic skill to activate them.
Characters with the Scribe Scroll skill can produce scrolls. To produce a scroll the character must know the spell they wish to create a scroll from. A character with the Savant specialist title may alternately copy any non-scarce scroll they have in their possession instead of needing to know the spell.
If the spell being put into a scroll is level 4 the character must possess a ritual quill as well. When the spell is level 5 not only must the character have a ritual quill, but they must also consume one dose of ritual ink (an alchemical item) per level 5 scroll produced.
Using Scrolls
A scroll is a consumable item that can be used by a character with the read magic skill to cast the spell written upon it. The scroll provides the power points and knowledge needed to cast the spell written on it and then it is destroyed.
When a scroll has a range of self, you may only use it if you know the spell on the scroll.
Scrolls are produced using the scribe scroll skill and production points.
Preproduction
Are you lost and looking for the page with information relevant to your preproduction form? Click here for production, and here for crafting. |
Every month dozens of players attend events, and sometimes as many as half of them will want to create new magic items, produce potions, and make other in-game items. It can take logistics staff sometimes hours a month putting all of these orders together, so we use the pre-production system to help make that job a lot easier on them.
Each month logistics staff members will post reminders to turn in preproduction. You don't need to wait for those reminders, simply send the form in at any time:
- Use this form to submit preproduction; this includes crafting new items, altering props with tinkering, producing new consumables, creating valuable items, turning in runes, exchanging items with merchant, or to let us know that you'll need items for being a high-ranking druid or merchant.
- To submit requests to update obsolete consumables and printed items (such as rituals or very old scrolls) use this form.
By doing this logistics staff has everything they need to make and gather in one single place, making the job much easier.
Production Points
Production points represent a character's access to materials or ability to refine a usable material from their environment.
Consumables are cheap, easy to make and good to have on hand for when you need that extra push. As a result, production points are very popular for a wide variety of characters. Merchants use production points to make their most popular inventory, but other adventurers will frequently pick up this skill as well because why not cut out the middleman?
Savant Title
A character earns the Savant title after obtaining all 20 production points and learning the following skills:
- Alchemy Mastery
- Brew Potion
- Scribe Scroll
- Estimate Value
- First Aid
- Herbalism
- Read Magic
- At least one language that was not inherited at the character's creation.
- Note that every character gains the Common language at creation, even if you choose to roleplay that you don't know it, so does not count towards this title.
Savants gain 5 production points that break cap. When producing potions or scrolls Savants, instead of being limited to only spells they know, may also copy potions and scrolls they have on hand to determine which they can make. This cannot be used to copy scarce items.
Only Savants can use an Alchemist's Laboratory.
