Description: | Used to treat the severely wounded, this removes the Bleeding Out condition. |
Prevents someone from dying, allowing natural recovery.
Description
Sometimes you run into someone who is critically wounded, in danger of bleeding out and you want to do the right thing and help them. But once someone has gotten to that point, you're looking at a significant cost to aid them, a level 3 spell, potion, scroll, etc minimum to perform Heal Mortal Wound. For a PC this is generally going to be the right decision, you want them to be able to keep playing. But with an NPC you're never going to see again, that's a steep cost. This is where Stabilizing Concoction comes in. By preventing them from bleeding out, you've successfully saved their lives. Between events the torso wound will heal naturally, which for an NPC about to leave play isn't a big deal. Role-playing accomplished at a more reasonable cost.
In a pinch you can also use this on PC's so that you won't have to Revive them later.
Effect
Remove the Bleeding Out condition from the target.

The Bleeding Out Condition
A character that has the Bleeding Out condition will die if they don't receive medical attention. After 10 minutes if this condition is not removed (healed) the character gains the Dead condition.
Any character with first aid may role-play taking care of someone with the Bleeding Out condition to extend the time it takes before they die. This adds an additional 10 minutes (for a total of 20). The first aid doesn't need to be started until the standard 10 minutes are nearly up (though it is good role-playing to do so prior to that). During the additional 10 minutes a person with first aid must maintain steady role-play. If at any point during the additional 10 minutes no one with first aid is actively paying attention to the individual Bleeding Out that person will die immediately.
This condition can be cured with items like Stabilizing Concoction. Anything that removes a Torso Wound condition will also automatically remove the Bleeding Out condition.
Ointments
Ointments are like ingested alchemicals, but are applied topically, generally to treat wounds. To use them role-play applying the ointment to the target. Otherwise, follow the alchemical for any other special rules.
