Shrines

A shrine is an object (or group of objects) that represents a single one of the gods. Each gods' shrines have a different item number.

As a non-lootable item that can be placed anywhere, a player could in theory put a Darkness shrine right in the middle of town and there is nothing anyone could do about it. Don't do this. Any Shrine dedicated to any god placed in a deliberately hostile location will draw the ire of the gods. Expect there to be consequences from YOUR DEITY. Shrines belong in sacred sites, locations with some association with the deity. That association could be somewhere important to you, or your home, but places where a shrine will be regularly greeted with direct hostility don't create the reverence the shrine is supposed to generate.

Consecrating a Shrine

Shrines can be set up in any location but must then be consecrated with the consecrate ritual before they can be used. Once consecrated a shrine cannot be moved. When a shrine has been consecrated tie a blue ribbon to the shrine, this is the only reason a blue ribbon should ever be attached to a shrine. Consecration lasts between events and so the blue ribbon should stay attached between events as well (the shrine must be placed in the same location each event as long as it remains consecrated). Tie the ribbon on securely, but make sure it can be removed.

Desecrating a Shrine

Using the Desecration ritual, others can deconsecrate the shrine removing the ribbon. The owner of a shrine may also voluntarily remove the ribbon without a ritual. This would typically be done because they wish to move it to a new location. When either of these things happen the shrine must be reconsecrated using the Consecrate ritual once more before it can be used again.

Activating Shrines

Any Chosen of the god the shrine is dedicated to may pray at a consecrated shrine to activate it.

When activated if the shrine is in a building a Septly shrine create a Sanctified field. Shrines dedicated to one of the Dark 3 create an Unhallowed field. Finally, shrines dedicated to Draconus can do either.

When activated while outside of a building all shrines produce a Sanctuary field regardless of deity they are dedicated to.

The field created lasts as long as the Chosen is praying, and thus can't be dispelled (the effect would end and immediately begin again because the prayer is still ongoing).

Chosen Created Shrines

Anyone with the Chosen RP skill may craft a single shrine for free with no crafting point cost or skills required. This may be done once ever, during pre-production for any event of the players choosing. Additional shrines must then be crafted as normal.

This free shrine is automatically consecrated for free once when it first enters play, but if it becomes deconsecrated, it must be reconsecrated normally.
