Character Skill

Combat Skill

Using two weapons at once, also known as 'dual wielding', is a popular method of fighting.

Description

With training, one can learn to fight effectively by wielding two weapons at once.

Effect

These skills determine if you can dual wield weapons, and how large the weapons you can dual wield are. Note that "off-hand" refers to the weapon in your non-dominant hand (or in the case of ambidextrous folk, the hand you do not usually hold your weapon in).

With Off-Hand Training, you can wield a non-martial weapon in each hand at the same time.

Learning Off-Hand Proficiency lets you wield a martial weapon in your main hand and a non-martial weapon in your off-hand.

When you learn Off-Hand Expertise, you may wield two martial weapons at once.

Weapon Masters may dual wield a great javelin with another non-great weapon or shield.

Skill Name

Skill Tree Prerequisite(s) Skill Point Cost Description

Off-Hand Training

Combat Melee Proficiency 2 Dual wield two non-martial weapons.

Off-Hand Proficiency

Combat Off-hand Training 3 Dual wield one martial and one non-martial weapon.

Off-Hand Expertise

Combat Off-hand Proficiency 4 Dual wield two martial weapons.

Strategy

Different combinations of weapons can be used for different fighting tactics. Either attack from multiple angles at once, or use one weapon to attack and another to defend.

No player skill allows you to dual wield anything with a great weapon as both hands must be on the great weapon when fighting with it. You can be holding another weapon in your hand, but cannot use it to attack. This is useful for if your arm gets removed in combat; you can drop the great weapon and keep fighting with the other weapon without having to take it out.

Great weapons must be wielded with both hands except under two exceptions. A player may make straight thrusts one-handed with a great weapon. Afterwards the player must immediately return to having two hands on the weapon. When blocking an attack with a great weapon only having one hand on it is also permitted.

When wielding a great weapon any character may reduce their Might by half (after cap is applied, rounded down) to add the 'Slay!' modifier call to an attack.

Great javelins are a throwable type of great weapon. When wielding a great javelin, a weapons master may fight with a great javelin in one hand and a second weapon or shield in the other. When fighting this way only jabs may be made with the great javelin.
