'Slay!' attacks are so powerful even monstrous creatures should fear them.
Description
The 'Slay!' call is a modifier call used to represent attacks that are particularly mighty or powerful. It can come from particularly skillful combatants or from spells (such as the Strength spell).
Against the average opponent the 'Slay!' call has no effect. However against the toughest opponents or those in the most durable armor it is vastly more effective for defeating them. Any time you are fighting an opponent with monstrous body or monstrous armor 'Slay!' damage makes the fight much more managable.
Calls
The 'Slay!' call always deals damage, if no number is included assume it is for 1 damage. 'Slay!' calls modify another call, and whether or not the attack can be blocked is determined by the call being modified.
Monstrous body and armor provide no extra protection for damage from an attack using the 'Slay!' call.
If an attack contains the 'Blunt!' or 'Pierce!' call it may not have the 'Slay!' call added to it.

Master's Strikes
A master's strike is a type of modifier call granted by some abilities and items. When used a master's strike modifies the characters next successful hit. Using a master strike a character can add either the 'Slay!' call or the 'Pierce' call to a weapon attack (for the purposes of this ability a projectile weapon delivering a tag bag spell does not count as a weapon attack). Additionally when using a masters strike Might and Accuracy are capped at 4 while dual wielding, with a sword and shield, or when using throwing weapons instead of the normal caps of 2. Remember, only one modifier can be applied to a call at a time. If a modifer is already present, no additional modifiers can be added.
Example: A character is using a great weapon and they attack for half damage to apply the slay call to the attack. They may not then apply a master's strike to that attack to also add the pierce call. |
Strength Spell Effect
The target gains +1 Might. This does not break cap.
- If the target already has 4 Might, they may end this effect to replace their next strike with 2 Slay (4 Slay if wielding a great weapon), adding the weapon's damage type to the call.
Great Weapons
A great weapon is any melee weapon over 45 inches (114.3cm) in length. Great weapons require the Melee Expertise skill to wield.
Great weapons must be wielded with both hands except under two exceptions. A player may make straight thrusts one-handed with a great weapon. Afterwards the player must immediately return to having two hands on the weapon. When blocking an attack with a great weapon only having one hand on it is also permitted.
When wielding a great weapon any character may reduce their Might by half (after cap is applied, rounded down) to add the 'Slay!' modifier call to an attack.
Great javelins are a throwable type of great weapon. When wielding a great javelin, a weapons master may fight with a great javelin in one hand and a second weapon or shield in the other. When fighting this way only jabs may be made with the great javelin.
